Shop Best Columbus Electric Deals Today

Columbus electric rates may go higher this summer when PJM auction costs combine with hot weather. Shop now to save!
PJM auction costs will combine with hot summer weather to raise bills. Lock in a low fixed rate plan now and avoid paying higher Columbus electric rates.

No one wants higher energy prices, especially after a cold and pricey winter. However, Columbus energy customers may see rising prices between now and July. But you could lock in some big savings today if you shop electric deals right now. So, let's dig into some of the best electric deals apples to apples in Columbus.

    Why Shop Columbus Electric Deals?

As of this March 29 writing, AEP Ohio PTC rates are 10.65 cents per kilowatt-hour (kWh). That adds up to a monthly supply charge of about $85 for 800 kWh of energy. But, on April 1, the AEP Ohio PTC rate will change. While we don't know what the new rate will be, we anticipate that PTC rates will rise further and ratepayers will face higher summer bills.

Firstly, NOAA predicts above normal summer temperatures. That's significant because heating and cooling accounts for over half of a home's annual energy consumption. So Ohio homes that may need to run their AC systems longer to keep cool will likely pay bigger bills.

Secondly, PJM price auctions for 2026 could not line up enough generators to cover the biggest summer demand days. While a price cap blocked the price from reaching $500 MW-day, Ohio ratepayers still face a rate hike this summer. Last summer, the capacity auction raised Ohio utility PTC rates from 7.4 cents per kWh to 9.6 cents per kWh. A similar 2 cent rise could hike bills by 15%!

So, to avoid paying higher rates, it's crucial to lock in a low rate now!

    Best Short Term Electric Rates

Short term plans are great choices for anyone planning to move before the end of the year.

For example, the Clearview Energy Clear Guarantee 9 Plus plan offer 8.6 cents per kWh with a $19.99 MRC for nine months. For an average 800 kWh usage, that's about $88.79 cents per month on supply charges. Locking in this rate now can save you money if PTC rates rise this summer. Plus, customers can find shopping discounts with their rewards program.

But, if you will be moving in the fall, then consider the Clearview Energy Clear Guarantee 6 plan. This 6 month plan powers costs 10.5 cents per kWh, about $84 for the monthly supply charge. This plan also gives you the option to shop fall shoulder month season rates.

    Cheapest 12 Month Fixed Rate

If you don't plan to move soon, then you should lock in a 12 month fixed rate plan now.

Start by checking out the Public Power Electric 12 Month Fixed Rate WITH MRC plan. This plan charges 9.6 cents per kWh with a $14.95 MRC, which means an average monthly supply charge of $91.75. While this doesn't beat current PTC rates, it likely will if PTC rates jump 15% on June 1.

For similar reasons, you might also consider the Xoom Energy SureLock 12 plan. This plan charges 11.5 cents per kWh which equals a monthly supply charge of $92. Xoom Energy customers can take advantage of their rewards program to find more value with shopping, dining, and travel discounts. Columbus customers also rank Xoom Energy as a bronze tier electric company.

Lock In the Best Plan for You

Ohio ratepayers may likely see much higher bills this summer. So, whether you need a short or long term plan, the best way to save on those bills is to lock in a fixed low rate now. You can also shop for other great electricity deals right here at https://www.ohenergyratings.com.

This spring you can save on the best priced electric plans. Learn how much more you could pay on the Duke Energy PTC rate this summer!

After a cold and pricey winter, the spring shoulder month is finally here. This is when warmer temperatures help you shop for the lowest electricity rates. So now's your chance to spring into the best electric supplier savings with these shoulder month electric plans.

Why Shop Now To Beat PTC

Right now, Duke Energy customers are paying a PTC rate of 10.06 cents per kilowatt-hour (kWh). Most Ohio homes use an average of 846 kWh per month. This means the average monthly supply charge is a little over $85 a month. This may not sound bad, but keep in mind that for the past four years, spring PTC rates rose by about 2 cents per kWh before the summer. If this pattern holds, then your supply charge could rise up to $102 per month!

However, we are now in spring shoulder month pricing. So you could lock in better than PTC rates right now!

Compare Best Long Term Electric Plans

You might consider shopping for long term electricity rates because of the uncertain effect data centers could have on prices. Also, some utility transmission charges will rise in April and these could hike bills by as much as $7 a month! So, you could offset any price hikes by locking in cheap rates today.

For example, the Clearview Energy Clear Guarantee 24 plan charges 9.6 cents per kWh. This means paying a monthly supply charge of $81 for 24 months of service. This saves you $4 a month compared to current PTC rates and you can find more savings with the company rewards program.

You might also consider the Xoom Energy Surelock 24 plan. This plan charges 10.8 cents per kWh, which equals an average monthly supply charge of about $91. This is a great plan to choose if PTC rates are set to rise, because you can find shopping and dining discounts with their rewards program.

Similarly, the APG&E TrueSimple 24 plan charges 10.8 cents per kWh. This means that you could save as much as $7 a month if PTC rates do rise this summer.
